Don Toliver Minneapolis Concert reviews
Counting Crows=huge disappointment / LIVE=amazing!
I've always been a Don Toliver fan, but this Don Toliver show was the most disappointing concert I've ever been to in my life. Lead singer, Adam, walked around very nonchalant with hand in his pocket, talking his way through songs that they changed so far from the original that they were barely recognizable. The fans were trying to sing along, but couldn't because the hook was gone. Adam told stories about HIS life over and over again, while sitting on a stage monitor...incredibly self indulgent. His stories came off as strange and depressing. Later, I heard that they didn't even play "Mr. Jones"...this was their 25th anniversary tour, they should've at least played their biggest hit. At one point, someone behind us yelled "Oh my god, just shut up and play Mr. Jones!" We left early because it was so bad.
I actually bought tickets to see LIVE (opening band), and they were phenomenal!!! LIVE should've been the headlining band. Ed's voice sounded amazing, band was tight...the crowd was into it and was singing along. Overall, disappointing to pay the price for good seats, watch an amazing band play for only 1 hour, then be so bored and disappointed in Don Toliver that leaving early didn't even get a 2nd thought. There comes a time when a band needs to hang it up and let the memory of being a big star with great music live on...it's that time for Don Toliver.
If you are going to see LIVE, you will be pleased. Bottom line, if you are going to see Don Toliver - stay home, save your money and watch old YouTube videos of when they were actually good! (BTW, the venue Coral Sky is great. I gave "1 star" for the show).
